Featured Funeral: Tim Russert

Arguably one of the America’s most acclaimed political journalists, Tim Russert died suddenly from a heart attack on Friday, June 13th, 2008, after 17 years of serving as the moderator of “Meet the Press.”  With incredible political insight, Russert was an icon in many American homes.  A public wake, held on June 17th, saw 300 people an hour, all who came to pay their final respects to Tim Russert.  An invitation only funeral was held on June 18th.  A memorial service was held following the funeral where dozens of journalists, politicians, friends and family gathered to celebrate Tim Russert’s life “Irish style.” Music at the funeral was played from Russert’s Ipod, which included Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird.” A final tribute was given via satellite by Bruce Springsteen.
